  • What is the International Steinway Festival?

    The festival is an important biennial event sponsored by Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany. Its purpose is to identify, encourage, and promote young pianists in the formative stages of their careers. In 2014 various countries will be running national level auditions to determine representatives for Hamburg. Here in Asia a regional audition--hosted by Steinway Gallery Singapore and involving finalists from 9 nations. The event is one of the largest events of its kind, offering prizes and an opportunity for its 1st prize winner to appear in concert alongside representatives from several European nations. If for any reason the regional winner is ill or unable to travel to Germany, the 2nd Prize winner may, at the discretion of the regional jury panel, be awarded the fully sponsored trip to Hamburg instead.
  • When are these Asian National & Regional competitions?

    In the first stages, local Steinway Dealers will administer national auditions throughout the following Asian countries: Taiwan, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei & Singapore. (Auditions in China and Japan are managed under separate auspices.) Each country will select one representative who will perform in the Steinway Regional Finals in Singapore. Regional finalists will be asked to arrive the night preceding the regional finals for an orientation meeting with the Competition Committee.
  • When and where will the Regional Finals be held?

    The Regional Finals will be held on July 2016 (precise date to be confirmed). This year, the Regional Final will be hosted by Malaysia.
  • How many performers will participate in Malaysia Regional Finals?

    A maximum of 9 pianists (one from each of the designated countries) will be selected from the national auditions mentioned above.

  • Can applicants enter both the Youth Piano Competition and the Piano Concerto Competition?

    Yes, applications who qualify the age limit can enter both categories. The first round will be judged at the same time.
  • How much are the application fees?

    The non-refundable application fee to be transferred to Siam Commercial Bank Savings account: 2472167202 (Chulayuth Lochotinan) and send payslip to

    Youth Piano Competition - 4,000 Baht (3,500 Baht if applied before 29 February 2016)
    Piano Concerto Competition - 4,000 Baht (3,500 Baht if applied before 29 February 2016)
    Amateur Piano Competition - 3,000 Baht (2,500 Bhat if applied before 29 February 2016)

    Application deadline is 15 April 2016.

  • What needs to be submitted along with the application?

    Just application form and a copy of national ID/passport.
    Proof of employment in non-music related field will also be required for Amateur Piano Competition.
  • Do I need to submit a CD/DVD?
    No, every applicant will get a chance to perform in front of the judging panel in the first round.
